Live in de Living 36 - Pig Molester, Kiré, Hypnotic Skulls, IDM Theft Able
Edition 36 - “Dedicated to the true friends of Phil Kevin [myspace]” - of Live in De Living dates from quite some time ago (2nd of april), but I’ll nevertheless do my best to give you an as accurate as possible account of the evening.
Pig Molester (”Harsh noise from Bilzen”) [myspace] opened the evening with a classic, straight forward harsh-noise set: fast switches and pedals a galore, but a good turn of the volume-knob in the direction of position 10 would sure have put things to its fuller right. This kind of music needs volume! Pig Molester has a good deal of ear-ravaging harsh noise-CDr’s out (make sure to check out his split with the uk-based harshnoise-project Slut Kull [myspace]).
Kiré “Boompjesnoisse”, member of Krokodillenland [website] and to be contacted through Dennis Krokodil (see below) “cause no e-mail” sure knows how a volume-knob works as he kicked off in full junknoise-style. The first 3 to 4 minutes of his set caused a good deal of fists to go in the air and were an instant hit, then his set lost a bit of its initial drive, but after three or four minutes of cable- and pedal-fiddling Kiré got back on track with some brutal powersynth - quite different than the start of his set, but at least as good and not solely appreciated by the harsh-heads amongst us, but appealing to a good deal of the people attending the show. The revalation of the evening. This guy gets a A+ on attitude from me, but I’m afraid a good deal of his teachers at school won’t agree with me.
Hyponotic Skulls are the collab-project of Bear Bones Lay Low [myspace] and Dennis Krokodil [myspace], boiling down to two of the most promising young noise/drone projects currently around in Belgium joining forces. Lots of material on the floor, a well-build-up set with drones and volumes growing in intensity as Bear Bones Lay Low started mowing around with his guitar, marked by a quite abrupt ending, but hey, better to play too short than too play too long (and granted, my awareness of time might have been a bit distorted by Hyponitc Skulls’ -what’s in a name?- time-altering set) - I heard Bear Bones Lay Low has plans releasing the recordings of this set, so keep an eye on that one.
I’m saving IDM Theft Able [website] for another time, when I’m writing the review of the gig he did at Rotkot [read it here], the evening after. Stay tuned for more! (pics and vids in the pipeline!) [done!]
